Norwegian renewables company Aneo has agreed to acquire RWE Renewables Sweden’s wind power portfolio, comprising 124MW of onshore wind and 48MW of nearshore capacity, alongside project development assets and operations and maintenance services, the companies said.
The operational assets generate about 500GWh of electricity a year, primarily in Sweden’s SE4 price area, according to Aneo. The transaction also includes employees with expertise in operations, maintenance and project development.
“This is a portfolio we have looked at with great interest, and we are very pleased to have closed this agreement,” said Aneo chief executive Gunnar Hovland.
“The acquisition gives us significant scale in the Swedish market and diversifies our production geographically and technologically,” he added.
Aneo said the deal complements its acquisition of Swedish wind company Arise AB, where it has recently passed a 97% acceptance threshold. Combined with the Arise transaction, the RWE portfolio will more than double Aneo’s electricity production in Sweden, the company said.
“With Arise and the RWE portfolio in place, we are strengthening our position in the Swedish market and in the Nordic region,” Hovland said, adding that the transaction provides access to experienced teams in both operations and development.
RWE Renewables said it was pleased to see its Swedish wind business transferred to a new owner.
“We are delighted that our Swedish wind business and its project teams will be joining Aneo,” said Katja Wünschel, chief executive of RWE Renewables Europe & Australia.
“We are therefore pleased to have found a new home for our impacted employees, and we wish the Swedish team and its projects continued success,” she added.
The deal has been signed and is subject to regulatory approvals in Sweden.
