BayWa r.e. Aims to Ramp Up Offshore Wind Ventures in Italy

., the renewables division of BayWa AG, has unveiled plans to significantly accelerate its wind endeavors in , marking a strategic move to bolster its presence in the burgeoning sector, the company disclosed on Thursday.

With an Italian portfolio encompassing over 9GW of projects in various stages of development, BayWa r.e. underscores its ambition to emerge as a key player in the offshore wind industry.

The company boasts a total of 14 floating offshore wind power plants under development across Italy, underscoring its commitment to pioneering sustainable energy solutions. To bolster its offshore wind initiatives, BayWa r.e. has established a dedicated project development team headquartered in Rome.

Giulia Lo Bianco, head of offshore wind at BayWa r.e. Italy, emphasized the company's determination to drive forward a green and sustainable future in Italy. Lo Bianco stated, “Our significant project reflects our determination to support a green and sustainable future in Italy. Over the next years, BayWa r.e. will continue to invest resources and expertise to implement innovative solutions such as offshore wind, to not only contribute to a concrete path towards decarbonisation for Italy, but also create economic opportunities and promote sustainable development at a regional level.”

BayWa r.e. anticipates that three to five of these projects in Italy will be commissioned by 2030, with a combined capacity of approximately 2GW. This forecast takes into account the intricacies of the development processes, regulatory assessments, and technical considerations necessary to ensure the quality and safety of the projects.

To realize its ambitious offshore wind aspirations, BayWa r.e. estimates an investment of approximately €6 billion will be requisite for the development and construction of these plants.
