ContourGlobal has entered the Greek renewable energy market through the acquisition of about 37MWp of operating solar photovoltaic assets and a portfolio of battery energy storage projects totalling up to 500MW/2000MWh, the company said.
The operational solar portfolio, comprising 26 PV plants commissioned between 2011 and 2022, generates around 51GWh of electricity annually and is fully contracted under Greece’s feed-in tariff and feed-in premium schemes. The assets were previously owned by Quest Energy, a subsidiary of Quest Holdings.
ContourGlobal said the transaction was among the first to be approved under Greece’s new foreign direct investment directive.
“While continuing our simplification and rationalization effort, entering the Greek market is a further step in ContourGlobal ambition to become a leading independent power producer in renewables and energy storage,” said chief executive Antonio Cammisecra.
The company has also acquired six battery storage projects through two separate transactions with developers FRV and Zephiros. The portfolio totals 500MW/2000MWh and includes both ready-to-build and advanced-stage projects.
The first storage project, Taxiarches, is a 100MW/400MWh facility in Thessaly that is ready to start construction. ContourGlobal said work is expected to begin in the coming months, with commercial operation targeted for early 2027.
The second transaction covers up to 400MW/1600MWh across six battery projects that have secured environmental approvals, key permits and grid connection applications.
“Greece combines rapidly growing renewable penetration with a booming need for large-scale storage solutions,” Cammisecra added.
ContourGlobal said Greece is experiencing strong growth in renewable generation alongside increasing demand for grid-scale storage to support system flexibility as part of the country’s long-term energy transition. The company added that the acquisitions strengthen its European platform and position it for further expansion in renewables and battery storage across the region.
