Germany’s RWE has agreed to sell its 350-megawatt FEW Baltic 2 offshore wind development in the Polish Baltic Sea to state-controlled utility PGE, the company said on Monday.
The offshore wind farm is planned around 50 kilometres north of the coastal city of Ustka, with the transaction expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2026, subject to customary closing conditions.
RWE said the agreement also includes the transfer of an Environmental Decision and associated project data for the neighbouring 44.E.1. site, expanding PGE’s development options in the area.
The sale comes as RWE continues to adjust its offshore wind portfolio while maintaining a presence in Poland’s renewable energy market. The company currently operates more than 660 megawatts of onshore wind and solar capacity in the country.
“We are convinced that, in synergy with their other portfolio, PGE is better positioned to realise this project than RWE would be on a standalone basis,” said Sven Utermöhlen, chief executive officer of RWE Offshore Wind.
RWE said its broader offshore wind growth strategy remains unchanged. “Our target to further grow our offshore wind portfolio remains unchanged,” Utermöhlen added, noting that the company is currently constructing four large offshore wind farms across four European countries and has additional projects under development.
RWE operates 19 offshore wind farms in five countries with a total installed capacity of 6.2 gigawatts, of which its attributable share is 3.3 gigawatts, the company said.
