Parkwind and Alinta Energy Partner to Develop 1GW+ Spinifex Offshore Wind Farm in Australia

and Australian utility Alinta Energy have forged a strategic alliance to develop the Spinifex Wind Farm, with a capacity exceeding 1 gigawatt, in the Southern Ocean Region Declared Area of South West .

Under this collaboration, Alinta Energy and JERA Nex, the recently established entity under Parkwind's parent company JERA, will combine their expertise and resources to advance the Spinifex Project.

The parties have already identified a site for the project and are committed to engaging with local stakeholders to refine their proposal and advance the project.

Jeff Dimery, Managing Director and Chief Executive of Alinta Energy, expressed his optimism about partnering with the JERA Nex team, acknowledging their experience as developers and operators. Dimery stated, “JERA and Parkwind both have a commendable track record in offshore wind and have introduced notable engineering and construction techniques. We appreciate their collaborative approach and shared vision for benefiting communities in South West Victoria.”

Francois Van Leeuw, Vice President of Development & Construction Offshore at JERA Nex and Co-Chief Executive of Parkwind, emphasized the potential for offshore wind in Australia and the strength of the collaboration. Van Leeuw commented, “We believe that the combination of Alinta Energy's local expertise and our offshore credentials provides a solid foundation for this project. We are committed to working closely with the local community to deliver clean, sustainable energy to Australian homes and businesses.”

With JERA Nex's extensive global portfolio and Alinta Energy's local presence, the partnership aims to reshape Australia's renewable energy landscape. A study conducted by the project in 2023 anticipates significant economic contributions, estimating up to AUS$1.6 billion during the construction phase and AUS$40 million annually during operation, benefiting the regional economy.
