The UK government’s Planning and Infrastructure Bill has completed its final passage through the House of Lords and is now set to receive Royal Assent, the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero said.
Energy minister Michael Shanks described the legislation as a significant step for the energy and infrastructure sectors. “This landmark Bill will help us deliver Clean Power 2030 and the infrastructure in Britain that we need for economic growth,” he said.
The Bill introduces reforms to grid connection queues and establishes a framework for providing benefits to communities that host new transmission infrastructure. It also seeks to accelerate permitting for Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects, following consultations held earlier this year.
Proposed measures include changes to statutory consultation rules, reassessment of national policy statements, and adjustments to the judicial review process aimed at streamlining project approvals.
