Morven Offshore Wind Limited has begun a new phase of public consultation on plans for electricity transmission infrastructure to connect the Morven Offshore Wind Farm to the national grid at the Hawthorn Pit substation near Seaham, the company said this week.
The consultation, which opened on Oct. 22 and runs until Nov. 30, will gather feedback on proposed offshore and onshore cable corridors and the substation site for the Morven Hawthorn Pit Grid Connection Project.
Located about 60 kilometres off the coast of Aberdeenshire, the Morven Offshore Wind Farm is being developed by Morven Offshore Wind Limited, a joint venture between Energie Baden-Württemberg (EnBW) and JERA Nex bp. Once operational, the project is expected to have the capacity to supply electricity to the equivalent of about 3 million homes in the United Kingdom.
Thomas Hudson, project director at JERA Nex bp, said the company’s previous round of engagement had influenced its current plans. “Feedback from the community to our 2024 consultation has been key in helping us develop our plans for the Morven Hawthorn Pit Grid Connection Project,” Hudson said. “We are looking forward to sharing our latest plans and hearing from the public again.”
Kate Potter, deputy project director at EnBW, said community engagement would continue to play an important role. “We recognise the importance of working closely with local communities as we develop the Morven Hawthorn Pit Grid Connection Project,” Potter said. “This consultation is a chance for residents and stakeholders to share their views and help shape a project of national significance.”
Members of the public can review the proposals and submit feedback through consultation events and online channels during the six-week period, the company said.
