Synera Renewable Energy Group (SRE) has signed a 15-year contract with Dong Fang Offshore (DFO) for the provision of a service operations vessel (SOV), marking the longest such agreement in Taiwan’s offshore wind sector.
The newly built, Taiwan-flagged SOV will support the operations and maintenance (O&M) of SRE’s assets, starting with the 495-megawatt (MW) Formosa 4 offshore wind farm located off Miaoli County. The vessel is being custom-designed to withstand local offshore conditions and will be constructed to European standards to meet SRE’s operational requirements.
“SRE has consistently fostered trusted local partnerships for our offshore wind projects. Our collaboration with DFO has been marked by mutual goodwill, ultimately enabling this significant long-term commitment to Taiwan’s offshore wind market,” said SRE chairperson Lucas Lin. “We look forward to this strong partnership delivering reliable power and setting a model for sustainable industry development.”
Polin Chen, chief executive of Dong Fang Offshore, added, “We appreciate SRE’s trust and confidence in DFO and are pleased to support the Formosa 4 project’s O&M through this 15-year partnership. With this long-term commitment, we look forward to working together to advance the localization of O&M services for Taiwan’s offshore wind industry.”
Formosa 4, SRE’s third offshore wind farm in Taiwan, secured development rights in the first auction round of Phase 3 Zonal Development in late 2022. It received its establishment permit in 2024, becoming the first among the auction winners to reach this milestone.
