UK-based developer Aura Power has secured project financing for its 50-megawatt solar farm in Grimsby, paving the way for construction to begin on its third utility-scale solar project in the country.
The Grimsby solar farm, located in North East Lincolnshire, will be equipped with a single-axis tracking system and is designed to deliver a 71% biodiversity net gain through planned landscaping measures, the company said. Commissioning is targeted for early 2026.
The financing deal extends Aura Power’s collaboration with Dutch bank Rabobank, which is providing senior debt for the project. The two organisations previously partnered on the company’s Kemble and Burtree Lane solar farms. All three projects have secured Contracts for Difference (CfDs) through the UK government’s Allocation Round 5 (AR5), providing a guaranteed price for the electricity generated.
“It’s a really exciting time for us at Aura,” said Ben Moore, director at Aura Power. “Having started the company 12 years ago, we are delighted to be building an operations portfolio of over half a GW of solar assets in the UK.”
Early site preparation, including work on a new substation, is already underway, with full-scale construction expected to begin shortly.
Rabobank’s Jesse Leeuwendal added, “We are proud to continue our partnership with Aura Power as they accelerate the delivery of clean energy infrastructure across the UK. Aura’s strong track record and strategic approach make them a trusted partner in building a greener future.”
Aura Power currently has approximately 190MWp of solar projects under construction in the UK and aims to complete a 500MW pipeline of solar capacity by 2028.
