Renewable energy company Vindr has secured five new wind park development areas in Latvia, marking a significant step in its expansion within the Baltic region. The Nordic developer plans to invest up to €600 million in the wind farms, which will collectively have a capacity exceeding 600MW.
The five newly acquired sites are located in Cēsis, Jēkabpils, Līvāni, Saldus, and Valmiera, with the project expected to contribute to the country’s renewable energy goals.
Baiba Zauere, Vindr’s newly-appointed country manager for Latvia, expressed enthusiasm about the company’s progress, stating, “We are pleased to have secured the rights to develop wind parks in multiple new locations – this is a significant step not only for our company but also for Latvia’s energy development. Latvia is well-suited for wind energy production, and our country needs to enhance its energy security and independence. It’s a great match.”
In addition to the wind farm projects, Vindr is also working on a solar park near Līvāni, with an investment of €2 million. Before the construction of the wind farms can commence, the company plans to carry out environmental impact and technical studies, as well as follow a comprehensive approval process involving both national and local government institutions.
The company has emphasized its commitment to engaging with local communities around the development sites to ensure a collaborative approach in the project’s execution.
Vindr’s new wind and solar projects in Latvia align with the nation’s growing push to diversify its energy sources and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
