BYD and Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) have signed contracts for grid-scale energy storage projects totalling over 12.5 gigawatt-hours (GWh). These latest agreements bring the total cooperation between the two companies to 15.1 GWh, combining the new 12.5 GWh projects with a previously signed 2.6 GWh initiative.

This partnership is considered a significant step forward in advancing Saudi Arabia's renewable energy sector, which aligns with the nation's Vision 2030 goals. The energy storage systems (BESS) will be deployed at five locations across the country, integrated into Saudi Arabia's power transmission network. These installations are aimed at addressing challenges related to the growing number of renewable energy systems, ensuring grid stability, and meeting peak power demands.

A spokesperson from BYD Energy Storage stated, “Our commitment to providing advanced energy storage solutions is key to supporting the region's transition to sustainable energy. The new projects will enhance grid reliability and bolster Saudi Arabia's energy transition efforts.”

BYD Energy Storage, a global leader in the sector, has already delivered over 75 GWh of BESS equipment across more than 350 projects in over 110 countries and regions. Its diverse product portfolio spans multiple application scenarios across the generation, utility, and consumption sectors, providing a comprehensive industrial solution that includes research, development, manufacturing, sales, and service.
