Axpo has entered into a partnership with Raiffeisen Waren-Zentrale Rhein-Main (RWZ) to develop solar parks across Germany. Under the terms of the agreement, RWZ will manage landowner outreach and contract negotiations, while Axpo will take responsibility for the development, construction, and operation of the solar installations.
RWZ also plans to participate as a regional anchor shareholder in the emerging projects, strengthening its role in the renewable energy sector.
The expansion of renewable energy is a key part of Axpo's broader strategy, with Germany identified as a critical market for solar energy development.
Tim Papenfort, head of corporate development at RWZ, noted, “As an established international project developer and electricity trader, Axpo brings valuable expertise, particularly in the construction of new facilities and the marketing of green power.” He emphasized the need for a partner with a strong market focus to leverage alternative methods for marketing solar energy, particularly as subsidies under the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) have been reduced in recent years.
Martin Mitscher, managing director of Axpo's solar activities in Germany, added, “RWZ, as one of Germany's leading agricultural traders, is exceptionally well connected in rural areas, complementing our expertise in the development, construction, and marketing of solar parks. Through its participation in these projects, RWZ also builds trust with landowners and local stakeholders.
The partnership marks a significant step for Axpo in implementing its strategy to expand renewable energy across Europe, with Germany playing a central role in this transition.
