Synera Renewable Energy Group Expands into South Korea with 840-MW Offshore Wind Project

Group (SRE) has partnered with Moondo Wind Energy (MWE) to form a joint venture, Moondo Offshore Wind Energy, aimed at developing an 840-MW offshore wind farm in 's South Sea. This initiative represents SRE's first foray into the South Korean renewable energy market and marks its continued regional expansion following its entry into 's Northern Kyushu.

The project, a bottom-fixed offshore wind farm near Geomundo Island in Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do Province, has already secured an Electricity Business Licence from the South Korean government. The development aligns with South Korea's plans to bolster renewable energy deployment as part of its broader decarbonization and RE100 commitments.

“With the Korean government's plan of ramping up renewables, we are excited to play a role in the country's burgeoning offshore wind sector,” said SRE Chairperson Lucas Lin. “Over the past decade, SRE has built a strong track record as a leading offshore wind developer in . We are keen to share our expertise and experience with neighboring markets.”

Honglyol Song, Chief Executive of MWE, highlighted the collaboration's potential impact: “SRE's advanced technology and extensive experience in Taiwan will ensure the successful implementation of Moondo Offshore Wind Energy, making a significant contribution to Korea's efforts to reduce carbon emissions and achieve RE100.”

As part of its South Korean expansion, SRE has opened a new office in Seoul, where it plans to establish a team of local and international professionals focused on driving the region's energy transition. This move underscores the company's strategy to deepen partnerships and contribute to South Korea's renewable energy goals while advancing its own position in the -Pacific offshore wind market.
