Polska Grupa Biogazowa (PGB), part of the French multi-energy group TotalEnergies SE, has inaugurated its 20th biogas plant in Poland, bringing its total biogas capacity to 21 MW. The new facility, located in the Warmian-Masurian province in northeastern Poland, will produce 8.3 GWh of electricity and 8 GWh of heat annually, enough to power approximately 3,000 households.
The company is also actively expanding its operations, with 50 projects in advanced development and several dozen more in the planning stages. PGB has set ambitious goals to significantly increase its production capacity by 2030.
Tomasz Strzelecki, PGB's investment director, highlighted the importance of a forthcoming support system for biomethane installations above 1 MW, which he hopes will be implemented in the near future. According to Strzelecki, the growth of the biogas and biomethane sectors is heavily reliant on favorable legal and financial conditions.
PGB's core operations focus on the production of electricity and heat from biogas, with plans to further develop biomethane production for injection into the gas network. Strzelecki emphasized that utilizing biogas for biomethane production offers greater efficiency, and the company's investment plans are centered on this direction.
Founded in 2007, PGB was acquired by TotalEnergies in 2023. TotalEnergies is a major biomethane producer in France and a leading player in biogas production across Europe.
