The Albanian government has approved two new solar photovoltaic (PV) projects with a combined capacity exceeding 100 MW, set to expand the country's renewable energy capacity.
The Council of Ministers announced on Thursday that these projects, proposed by local firms, will be located in the Fier region and at the Vau i Dejes hydropower plant (HPP).
The larger project involves the installation of a 100-MW solar park in Darzeze, Fier, by Sunny Side Energy, a renewable energy producer established by the Albania-based Kastrati Group in 2023.
Planned for a 49-year operational life, the project aims to start generating green electricity within 36 months and will be funded entirely by private investment without state subsidies.
Additionally, a second project from the state-owned energy group KESH will develop an 8.3-MW solar plant at the Vau i Dejes HPP site.
This facility is expected to produce around 11,213 MWh of electricity annually and is also scheduled for completion within 36 months. These new developments reflect Albania's ongoing commitment to boosting its renewable energy capacity.
