Brazilian renewable energy firm Casa dos Ventos will provide wind and solar energy to power a green hydrogen facility that will supply Atlas Agro's fertiliser plant in Uberaba, Minas Gerais.
Through a newly signed memorandum of understanding (MoU), Casa dos Ventos will supply 300 average megawatts (MWa) of clean energy to support the facility, scheduled to begin operations in 2028.
The plant will produce approximately 530,000 tonnes of green ammonium nitrate annually, a sustainable alternative to traditional nitrogen fertilisers which are typically derived from natural gas.
This initiative is expected to advance Brazil's goal of reducing carbon emissions in agriculture while decreasing reliance on imported fertilisers.
Casa dos Ventos noted the project's potential to position Brazil as a leader in green fertiliser production, aligning with global trends toward sustainable agricultural practices.
