Poland's power grid operator, Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne (PSE), has received an environmental decision for the last of its four 400-kV transmission lines designed to deliver power from offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea to inland regions.
This 20-km line will connect the Choczewo power station, currently under construction near the Baltic coast, to the existing Slupsk-Zarnowiec line.
PSE explained that energy from offshore wind farms will be transmitted to new power stations and then distributed inland via high-voltage lines.
The environmental decision defines the necessary measures to ensure the project has minimal environmental impact.
The operator plans to apply for a location decision in early 2025, followed by a building permit, aiming to begin construction in mid-2026. The line is expected to be operational by 2027, supporting Poland's growing offshore wind energy sector.
