EDP Energias de Portugal SA has announced a two-year agreement with Brazilian retail group Companhia Brasileira de Distribuicao (GPA), aimed at supplying solar energy to the retailer.
The deal, revealed on Monday, will provide GPA with 16.8 GWh of solar power from 2024 to 2026, translating to approximately 701.85 MWh per month. This energy will be sourced from shared distributed generation (DG) photovoltaic (PV) plants located in São Paulo state.
The agreement will fulfill the energy needs of 40 Minuto Pão de Açúcar stores, enabling GPA to avoid the emission of 648.5 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) by the end of the contract.
EDP has set a target to reach about 500 MWp of installed capacity through solar DG parks in Brazil by 2026. Currently, the company has an installed capacity of 258 MWp in solar DG, with 209 MWp operational and 49 MWp either under construction or awaiting energisation.
