Tunisia's Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy has issued a tender for the development of large-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) projects with a combined capacity of 200 MW. The initiative is part of the country's ongoing efforts to expand its renewable energy portfolio.
Selected independent power producers (IPPs) will enter into long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Tunisia's state-owned grid operator, Société tunisienne de l'électricité et du gaz (STEG).
Developers interested in participating have until January 15 to submit their project proposals. The new tender follows a series of similar initiatives aimed at supporting utility-scale solar, including a 500 MW tender finalized in December 2019.
By the end of 2023, Tunisia's cumulative installed PV capacity had reached 506 MW, according to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).
In 2023, the country deployed approximately 309 MW of new solar capacity, demonstrating steady growth in its renewable energy sector.
