RWE has successfully completed a citizen investment initiative for the construction of its new onshore wind farm in San Severo, Puglia, Italy. The San Severo plant, located in the Foggia province, will have a total capacity of 54 MW and is set to supply renewable energy to around 55,000 households. With an investment volume of approximately €92 million, the wind farm is expected to commence operations by the end of December 2024.
During the first phase of the campaign, priority was given to residents of the Province of Foggia and the Puglia Region. On September 30, the initiative was opened to the entire country, and within eight hours, “a volume of investments equal to twice the minimum target set was reached, thanks to the participation of 165 investors,” RWE said in a statement.
Supporters of the campaign will receive a direct financial benefit for a duration of 24 months, with returns guaranteed by RWE—9% gross per year for residents in the Province of Foggia and 8% gross per year for residents in the rest of Italy.
RWE's Italian country chair, Paolo Raia, stated, “We thank all those who believed in this initiative. Their participation has a value that goes far beyond the economic aspects and more generally represents an important opportunity to actively support the development of energy from renewable sources and their crucial role in the energy transition and the decarbonization process of our country.”
The campaign was created on the platform of Ener2Crowd, a partner chosen by RWE to handle the financing process and management of sustainable investments.
