Amsterdam-based clean power and water sector company Photon Energy NV has announced the commissioning of a new solar park in Romania, increasing the country's total installed photovoltaic (PV) capacity to 51.6 MWp.
The Sarulesti plant, Photon's 13th solar park in its independent power producer (IPP) portfolio, is located in Calarasi County, near the Bulgarian border.
With an installed capacity of 3.2 MWp, the facility is expected to generate approximately 4.9 GWh of electricity annually. The solar park features 5,760 bifacial PV modules and single-axis trackers installed over 4.5 hectares of greenfield land.
Connected to the grid managed by E Distributie Dobrogea, the Sarulesti solar park will sell its output on a merchant basis, rather than through power purchase agreements. Photon Energy estimates that the electricity generation will generate revenues of around EUR 400,000 (approximately USD 433,700) in 2025, based on the conditions set by Romanian electricity transmission system operator Transelectrica.
Photon's CEO Georg Hotar emphasized that the commissioning of the Sarulesti plant underscores the company's strong project pipeline for this year and highlights the dynamic growth of the renewable energy market in Romania.
