German chemicals manufacturer BASF SE has announced the signing of a 10-year power purchase agreement (PPA) to secure renewable electricity for its three manufacturing sites in Jiangsu province, China.
The contract involves CLP China as the power generation partner and Envision Energy as the power retailer.
BASF's facilities in Nanjing, Rudong, and Zhenjiang have already achieved 100% renewable electricity consumption and now aim to maintain this status over the next decade through the new agreement.
The electricity will be sourced from CLP's photovoltaic projects located in Wuxi, Huai'an, and Yangzhou.
This PPA is part of BASF's broader strategy to enhance its renewable energy use in China and advance its goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
Jan Peter Bredehoeft, senior vice president of operations and site management for Greater China at BASF, remarked, “The rapid development of China's renewable energy market provides a foundation to support us in increasing the use of renewable energy. This will also allow us to launch products with reduced carbon footprint and support our downstream customers' green transformation.”
