Plug Power Inc has entered into a binding framework agreement with Allied Green Ammonia (AGA) to supply 3 GW of electrolysers for a planned green-hydrogen-to-ammonia plant in Australia, which is expected to become one of the largest in the world.
This agreement follows the earlier signing of a Basic Engineering and Design Package (BEDP) with AGA for the same project. The recent development sets the stage for the two companies to finalize a sales and purchase deal in the coming months.
Alfred Benedict, Chairman & Managing Director of Allied Green, remarked that the completion of the supply agreement represents a significant milestone for the project as it approaches the final investment decision (FID), anticipated imminently.
At the end of September, Swedish energy and infrastructure consultancy AFRY AB was announced as the owner's engineer for AGA's project, indicating continued momentum.
Plug Power plans to deliver its proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolysers for the project in late 2026 or early 2027. The plant, to be located at Gove Peninsula in the Northern Territory, will have the capacity to produce approximately 2,700 metric tonnes per day (TPD) of green ammonia using electrolysis powered by renewable energy. This facility is positioned to meet the increasing demand from AGA's customers in Asia and Europe.
