Eco Wave Power has signed an agreement with Taiwanese company Lian Tat to develop its first wave energy project in Taiwan. The initiative will start with a 100KW pilot installation, with plans to gradually expand capacity to 20MW.
Looking ahead, both companies have the long-term goal of installing 400MW of wave energy capacity along Taiwan's coastline, using Eco Wave Power's proprietary technology.
Lian Tat's Chairman, CY Huang, highlighted Taiwan's vast potential for marine energy, noting its 1,566-kilometre coastline. “The construction of Eco Wave Power's project is relatively easy, and I believe that it will be a significant stepping stone for the development of green electricity in Taiwan,” Huang said.
He added that the initiative could help Taiwan diversify its renewable energy sources and reach its clean energy targets. Following the successful completion of the 100KW demonstration site, plans are in place to scale up to 20MW, with a vision of eventually reaching more than 400MW.
Eco Wave Power's Founder and CEO, Inna Braverman, shared her optimism for the partnership, stating, “Due to Taiwan's impressive technological abilities, we plan to produce our floaters locally, creating not only clean electricity from the waves but also new wave-energy-related workplaces.”
She sees the collaboration as a pioneering step that could lead to broader adoption of wave energy across Asia, marking the first onshore wave energy array in the region.
