Bruc Energy, a Spanish renewable energy company, has successfully connected its first battery energy storage systems (BESS) to two of its solar farms in Caceres province, western Spain.
The systems, with a charging capacity of 2 MWh and 4 MWh, will allow Bruc to store over 2,190 MWh of energy annually.
These storage units are co-located with the company's 51-MW Caceres 2020 and 53-MW Caceres 2021 solar farms. This development marks a significant milestone in Bruc's strategic plan, which prioritizes the hybridisation of solar photovoltaic plants with battery storage.
As part of its growth strategy, Bruc Energy is working on 1.5 GW of BESS projects to expand its solar-plus-storage capabilities.
The company's broader objective, according to CEO Luis Venero, is to develop and manage a portfolio of 8,000 MW across Spain, leveraging hybrid systems that combine solar energy with wind and storage technologies.
