Danish renewable energy company Better Energy has announced the successful grid connection of its Fraugde solar park, located in the municipality of Odense. This photovoltaic (PV) plant will supply green electricity through three corporate off-take agreements, reflecting the growing demand for sustainable energy solutions in Denmark.
Spanning 74 hectares, the Fraugde solar park is expected to generate approximately 81 GWh of electricity annually, sufficient to meet the energy needs of around 51,000 Danes.
The output from its 136,000 solar panels has been contracted under power purchase agreements (PPAs) with notable companies, including Danish brewery Carlsberg, Semler Gruppen—Denmark's leading car importer—and environmental and waste treatment company Marius Pedersen A/S.
Better Energy highlighted that the land utilized for the solar park was previously employed for agricultural purposes. Now, with the installation of the solar panels, the site is covered with grass, allowing the landscape to recover from the effects of fertilizers and pesticides used in traditional farming practices.
The commissioning of the PV farm aligns with Carlsberg's sustainability program and its ambition to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030 at the latest. For Marius Pedersen, the new solar facility represents a significant step towards the electrification of its vehicle fleet.
Semler Gruppen has set a goal to reduce its Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 42% by the end of the decade, further demonstrating the critical role that renewable energy will play in their operations.
This successful project underscores Better Energy's commitment to expanding Denmark's renewable energy landscape while contributing to corporate sustainability efforts across various industries.
