PGE Baltica, a subsidiary of the PGE Group, has signed an agreement with Energoprojekt-Katowice to develop a conceptual design for the 900MW Baltica 1 Offshore Wind Farm. This step is crucial in the investment process for the construction of offshore wind farms, focusing on selecting the most effective power evacuation technology.
The scope of work includes conducting electrical analyses such as power flow studies under steady and fault conditions, short-circuit studies, and preliminary harmonic surveys. Additionally, cost and reliability analyses will be performed. The resulting documentation will inform further design work on power evacuation from the Baltica 1 wind farm.
The PGE Group's Offshore Program aims to construct the Baltica Offshore Wind Farm by 2030, in two phases—Baltica 2 and Baltica 3—totaling up to 2.5GW of installed capacity. These projects are being developed in partnership with Orsted.
Following 2030, the Baltica 1 Wind Farm will become part of the Group's portfolio. With the acquisition of new development areas in the Baltic Sea, PGE Group plans to build additional offshore wind farms by 2040, targeting over 7GW of installed offshore generation capacity.
The Baltica 1 project is situated approximately 80 kilometers off the coast near Łeba in the Pomeranian Voivodeship. The project already holds a location permit, a connection agreement, and has completed its first full year of wind, sea current, and wave research.
This year, PGE Baltica has initiated investigations into the subsoil for the onshore segment of the project, signing contracts for preliminary geotechnical studies of the seabed and geological studies for the onshore-sea drilling. Additionally, a geotechnical and structural designer has been selected to assess the subsoil and the route of the export cable.
