BP aims to develop five to ten low-carbon hydrogen projects over the next decade as part of its strategy to produce clean fuels and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, CEO Murray Auchincloss announced on Tuesday.
The hydrogen, produced via electrolysis using renewable energy, will be used to create sustainable aviation fuel and to decarbonize BP's refining operations.
“In hydrogen, we will be focused on five to ten construction projects this decade starting with the first two in Europe,” Auchincloss said.
The company has approved the development of a hydrogen project at its Castellon refinery in Spain and is preparing to proceed with a second project at its Lingen refinery in Germany.
