EWEC Seeks Developers for 400-MW Energy Storage Project in Abu Dhabi

Emirates Water and Electricity Company () has issued a request for proposals (RFP) for a 400-MW/800-MWh project in . This project aims to enhance the grid stability of the emirate, EWEC announced on Thursday.

The RFP was sent to 27 pre-qualified companies and consortia that had submitted Statements of Qualification following an Expression of Interest (EOI) stage. EWEC, a unit of Abu Dhabi Power Corporation, will receive responses by the last quarter of 2024.

The selected developer will be responsible for the development, financing, construction, operation, maintenance, and ownership of the battery energy storage system (BESS) and related . EWEC, the sole buyer of power and water capacity in Abu Dhabi, will enter into a long-term agreement with the chosen candidate.

The BESS will be installed at an unspecified location to provide grid flexibility and ancillary services, including frequency response and voltage regulation. The facility will support EWEC's existing renewable energy assets and future plants, contributing to the company's goal of increasing installed solar power capacity to 7.5 GW by 2030.
