Enel Chile announced on Tuesday that its 205-megawatt Las Salinas solar power complex has commenced commercial operations. The new facility is set to work in tandem with the existing Sierra Gorda Este wind farm, creating Chile's largest industrial-scale hybrid renewable energy center.
The Las Salinas solar farm, which includes stages 1, 2, and 3, is equipped with 458,044 bifacial panels and is situated near Calama in the Antofagasta region. This solar installation joins the Sierra Gorda Este wind farm, which was established in 2016 at the same location.
The combined output of the Las Salinas and Sierra Gorda Este facilities is expected to reach approximately 910 gigawatt-hours annually. This output is projected to be sufficient to supply electricity to more than 415,000 homes across Chile.
Enel Chile highlighted that the integration of these renewable energy sources marks a significant advancement in the country's efforts to enhance its renewable energy infrastructure.
