Rolls-Royce Holdings has secured an order to supply a 32.6 MW/65.2 MWh battery storage system to complement the Zeewolde wind farm in the Netherlands, the company announced on Monday.
The turn-key contract, facilitated by Battery Park Zeewolde, includes a 10-year maintenance agreement for Rolls-Royce's mtu EnergyPack QG system, scheduled to be operational by summer 2025. This system is designed to support energy trading and grid services markets for the customer.
Owned by a consortium of over 200 local farmers, residents, and entrepreneurs from the Zeewolde area, the Zeewolde wind farm is undergoing a significant repowering effort to achieve a capacity of 320 MW.
The new battery farm, located adjacent to the wind farm substation, aims to enhance local grid stability and facilitate renewable energy integration.
In addition to the Zeewolde battery facility, plans are underway for another nearby battery project. The 140 MWh BES Vogelweg Zeewolde BV development is currently in the final stages of securing investment, according to the announcement.
