The UK Planning Inspectorate has accepted the Development Consent Order (DCO) application for the 3GW Dogger Bank South (DBS) wind farm, marking a significant step in its development off the coast of east England.
The project, led by German utility RWE in partnership with UAE-based Masdar, is planned to be developed in two phases—DBS East and DBS West—with each phase potentially hosting up to 100 turbines.
RWE will spearhead the project's development, construction, and operation on behalf of the consortium. The next stages involve securing a Contracts for Difference (CfD) deal, followed by financing, construction, and commissioning, anticipated to commence in 2031.
The wind farm aims to secure a grid connection at the proposed National Grid substation at Creyke Beck 1, located near Cottingham, north of Hull. This infrastructure is crucial for integrating the renewable energy generated by the offshore wind project into the national electricity grid.
Dogger Bank South is part of the larger Dogger Bank Wind Farm complex, one of the world's most extensive offshore wind developments.
It is expected to play a pivotal role in the UK's renewable energy strategy, contributing significantly to the country's clean energy goals and supporting economic development in the region.
