Japanese renewable power producer Renova announced on Monday that the commercial operation date for its 75-MW Omaezakikou biomass plant has been postponed to October 2024.
Originally slated to commence operations in July 2024, the delay is attributed to extended adjustments needed for the boiler and turbine to ensure stable operational performance.
The project entity has been compensated for potential damages resulting from the schedule change, as stipulated in the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract.
Renova plans to utilize wood pellets and palm kernel shells (PKS) as primary fuel sources at the Omaezakikou facility.
Upon completion, the plant is expected to generate approximately 530 million kWh annually, sufficient to supply electricity to about 170,000 households, according to information available on the company's website.
Alongside Renova, joint investors in the project include Chubu Electric Power Co Inc, Mitsubishi Electric Financial Solutions Corporation, and Suzuyo Shoji Co Ltd. This adjustment marks a strategic step for Renova in enhancing its renewable energy portfolio in Japan.
