, a joint venture between and the EDF Group, has commenced construction on a 60MWp ground-mounted PV plant at SNOC's Sajaa Gas Complex in Sharjah, , the companies announced on Thursday.

The solar array, touted as the largest in the city to date, is expected to offset 66,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually, equivalent to removing over 14,600 cars from the road each year. This initiative supports SNOC's commitment to decarbonization and its target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2032.

“The project marks a significant milestone in SNOC's journey towards net zero emissions by 2032 and reinforces Sharjah's sustainability agenda,” said Hatem Al Mosa, CEO of SNOC. “We value our strategic collaboration with Emerge, Masdar, and EDF, and anticipate further opportunities in this direction.”

Under a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) agreement, Emerge will manage the entire project lifecycle, including financing, design, procurement, construction, operation, and maintenance of the solar modules for 25 years.

“Emerge is pleased to contribute to this landmark project alongside SNOC,” stated Michel Abi Saab, General Manager of Emerge. “Our turnkey solutions enable businesses like SNOC to transition towards sustainability without upfront costs, supporting their decarbonization efforts and ensuring a more cost-effective energy future for Sharjah.”
