, a developer specializing in repowering projects, has significantly expanded its portfolio in to 1 gigawatt (GW). The company now oversees 158 turbines across 24 wind farms, following extensive repowering and optimization efforts aimed at quadrupling energy production at these sites.

Focused primarily in northern and eastern Germany, NeXtWind has set its sights on further expansion beyond national borders, aiming to achieve a portfolio of 3GW by 2028. This milestone, originally targeted for 2026, was accelerated by strategic acquisitions, the deployment of advanced turbine technology, and the optimization of existing wind farms.

Werner Suess, co-chief executive and co-founder of NeXtWind, expressed optimism about the company's rapid growth, stating, “We originally aimed to reach 1000MW of optimization potential by 2026. Achieving this two years ahead of schedule is very encouraging.”

NeXtWind's growth strategy includes acquiring and revitalizing wind energy sites with outdated turbines, installing more efficient models, and collaborating closely with local communities to expand energy output sustainably. The company's recent expansion also includes doubling its team to over 50 employees and expanding its Berlin office to accommodate growth.

In mid-2023, NeXtWind secured $750 million in funding from institutional investors, marking one of Germany's largest financing rounds for a renewable energy platform. This substantial investment underpins NeXtWind's ambitious expansion plans and solidifies its position as a leader in repowering and optimizing Germany's distributed, climate-friendly energy .
