Equinor and Polenergia's joint venture overseeing the development of the Baltyk 2&3 offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea has entered into a significant agreement with Smulders Projects Belgium NV and Sif Netherlands BV. The deal involves the fabrication of 100 transition pieces crucial for the projects' infrastructure.
The offshore wind farms, located in the Polish exclusive economic zone approximately 37km and 22km off the Polish coast for Baltyk 2 and Baltyk 3 respectively, are set to have a combined installed capacity of 1440MW. This initiative aligns with Poland's regulatory framework governing such developments.
Under the agreement, Smulders and Sif will undertake the comprehensive scope of work, including the design, procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning of the transition pieces. Sif's role will encompass the manufacture of primary steel tubulars weighing approximately 30,000 tons at their facility in Roermond, Netherlands, which includes flanges essential for offshore wind infrastructure.
Smulders, leveraging its Polish facilities, will handle the secondary steel scope, coating, electrical systems, and final testing and commissioning. The final assembly of these components will take place at Smulders' yard in Hoboken, Belgium.
The collaboration underscores a strategic partnership aimed at advancing sustainable energy infrastructure in the Baltic region, enhancing offshore wind capabilities, and meeting ambitious renewable energy targets.
