Swiss energy supplier Axpo has announced its final investment decision to commence construction of the Lålax wind farm, a 25MW project located in Vörå municipality, Finland.
Axpo acquired project rights for the site in October 2023 and has now greenlit further investment, with plans to commence pre-construction activities later this year. Construction of four wind turbines, each boasting 6.2MW output and towering at 134 meters hub height, is scheduled to begin in late summer 2025.
“We are excited about the ideal location of the new wind project,” said Joakim Ingves, Axpo's head of wind activities in Finland. “My team will oversee development closely from our Vaasa office, ensuring timely completion of construction.”
Contracts have already been inked with Vestas, the turbine manufacturer, with Axpo aiming to commission the 24.8MW wind farm by autumn 2025. Once operational, the facility is projected to generate approximately 70GWh of renewable electricity annually, sufficient to power about 17,500 households.
“The significant project will bring numerous benefits to the region, including job creation,” Ingves added.
Axpo's Vaasa office, situated approximately 25 kilometers from the site, will manage the project, underscoring the company's commitment to local oversight and community engagement.
