Danish pension scheme manager Sampension and energy firm NRGi have jointly decided to invest in a significant solar project located on Denmark's Djursland peninsula, marking a substantial commitment to renewable energy infrastructure.
Announcing the final investment decision (FID) on Monday, Sampension stated that the partners, through their joint venture NRGi Renewables, will invest “the high three-digit millions” into the construction of a large-scale solar farm. This facility is projected to generate 132,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) of electricity annually.
The solar farm, covering approximately 122 hectares (301.5 acres) of land between Kolind and Nodager in Syddjurs Municipality, received approval from local authorities at the end of March.
“The FID was based on commitments from several companies to purchase a portion of the solar farm's output,” Sampension highlighted in a statement.
Groundbreaking for the project is slated for August, with commercial operation scheduled to commence in the spring of 2025.
Torbjorn Lange, Head of Property and Infrastructure at Sampension, emphasized, “It is a major focus area for Sampension to actively participate in the development of new sustainable energy and thus contribute positively to the green transition. We are also very pleased with our collaboration with the NRGi Group on NRGi Renewables, and we see great future potential to implement further projects together for the benefit of both increased sustainability and our pensioners' returns.”
