Dutch battery developer Dispatch and its collaborators have unveiled plans to construct a 45 MW/90 MWh utility-scale battery energy storage system (BESS), described as the largest of its kind in the Netherlands.
According to Dispatch, technology for the project will be supplied by Fluence Energy Inc, with Equans Netherlands overseeing engineering and construction. Dutch utility group Eneco will manage optimization of the BESS across multiple power markets.
The facility, set to be located in Dordrecht's port area and covering 6,000 square meters (64,583 sq ft), will house 144 Fluence cubes capable of storing enough energy to power 21,500 homes daily.
Construction is slated to commence in the coming months, supported by infrastructure fund EPICo², Macquarie Capital, and lender ABN Amro.
This initiative marks the initial phase of a strategic alliance between Dispatch and Macquarie Capital, aiming to deploy up to 3 GWh of BESS across the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany within the next seven years.
