Uriel Renovables, a Spanish family-owned renewables company, has obtained the necessary permits to construct its second 5-MW battery energy storage system (BESS) in Massachusetts, USA.
Following its inaugural BESS project in the state, the combined capacity of Uriel's two batteries will total 40 MWh, generating 10 MW of output, the company disclosed on Thursday.
Uriel has already finalized the interconnection agreement for the new project and anticipates commencing construction in 2025.
Pedro Sanchez Rubal, CEO of Uriel Renovables, emphasized, “These permits demonstrate that the development of our battery portfolio is progressing positively and consolidating in the US, in line with our growth plan in the country.”
The company is actively expanding its portfolio of BESS projects within the grid area managed by the Independent System Operator of New England, enticed by favorable decarbonization initiatives and energy storage policies in Massachusetts, including the Clean Peak Standard incentives program.
