RWE has successfully connected a 27MW wind farm to the grid along the A44n motorway in Germany. This venture, a collaborative effort between RWE, the city of Jüchen, and energy supplier NEW, promises to provide green electricity for approximately 26,000 households, surpassing the energy needs of Jüchen itself.
Michael Theisejans, Managing Director of NEW, emphasized the importance of local involvement, stating, “Green electricity from the region for the region – this guiding principle makes a significant contribution to the success of the energy transition.”
Agata Schallenberg, Head of RWE's construction department for wind and solar parks in Germany, commended the teamwork involved in the project, saying, “From the exchange with the authorities to the laying of the last cable – all colleagues and partner companies involved have done a great job.”
The construction of this new wind farm became imperative due to structural defects found in the concrete parts of the hybrid towers of the original turbines, according to RWE. However, the endeavor didn't only involve building from scratch; it was also conducted sustainably. RWE highlighted the reuse of large portions of the old turbines, such as nacelles, hubs, and rotor blades, in a resource-saving manner.
With RWE holding a 51% share in the cooperative wind farm and the city of Jüchen and NEW collectively holding 49%, the collaboration underscores a commitment to local partnerships and sustainable energy initiatives. This wind farm not only marks a milestone in renewable energy production but also signifies a step forward in community-driven sustainability efforts.
