's PTC210-DS crane is gearing up for a significant lift as it prepares to hoist a massive A-Frame for the Van Oord-owned heavy lift installation Svanen in an endeavor to bolster wind turbine installation capabilities.

As offshore wind energy continues to evolve for enhanced efficiency, the components supporting its infrastructure are also undergoing upgrades to meet the demands of modern technology.

The planned upgrade to a larger A-Frame for the Svanen vessel will facilitate the installation of next-generation monopile foundations at sea, according to Mammoet, a global leader in engineered heavy lifting and transport solutions.

Constructed of three primary components, fabricated by Holland Shipyards, the A-Frame components were meticulously transported by Mammoet to its headquarters in Schiedam, The , where assembly will take place. The completed A-Frame, upon assembly, will elevate the total height of the Svanen vessel to 125 meters.

To facilitate the intricate lift, Mammoet will deploy its advanced Mammoet Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs) to transport the assembled A-Frame 66 meters along the waterfront to the designated lift site.

The lift operation itself will see the Mammoet PTC crane configured with 105 meters of main boom and 66 meters of luffing jib, utilizing over 4,000 tonnes of counterweight for stability.

Highlighting the project's efficiency, Mammoet's project manager Julian Alkemade noted, “These two unique pieces of equipment are in the same place at the same time. The lift capabilities and location of the PTC will greatly mitigate downtime for the vessel.”

With installation slated to occur within just one week during April and May, Mammoet underscores the streamlined planning and execution made possible by the crane's availability in and its unparalleled lifting capabilities.

Alkemade further emphasized, “Normally, such a project could take a year or so to plan, but here it has only taken a few months due to the crane's availability and its unique capabilities as one of the world's largest.”

As Mammoet's PTC crane readies for the monumental lift, the operation stands as a testament to the company's commitment to providing innovative solutions for the evolving needs of the offshore wind energy sector.
