Van Oord has successfully concluded the installation of all 50 foundations and inter-array cables for Iberdrola’s Baltic Eagle offshore wind farm, boasting a substantial capacity of 476MW.

The heavy-lift installation vessel Svanen, showcased in earlier images, played a pivotal role in installing the monopiles off the coast of Germany earlier this year. Van Oord meticulously executed the wind turbine foundation installation, finalizing the process with the placement of transition pieces.

The installation unfolded in two distinct campaigns, utilizing Spliethoff’s Brouwersgracht and Jumbo’s Fairplayer for optimal efficiency. Van Oord’s cable-laying vessel, Nexus, recently wrapped up the installation of the inter-array cables critical for linking the offshore wind turbines and facilitating the transmission of electricity.

Ensuring precision in the process, the trencher Dig-It, a remotely-operated vehicle, skillfully buried the inter-array cables to the required depth. Notably, Dig-It has been tailor-made to navigate the challenging soft soil conditions prevalent in the Baltic Sea, showcasing Van Oord’s commitment to overcoming environmental challenges.

As the termination and testing activities for the Inter-Array Cables (IAC) are currently underway, they are anticipated to be finalized in the first quarter of 2024. The Baltic Eagle offshore wind farm, situated in the German Baltic Sea, approximately 30 kilometres northeast of the island of Rügen, is poised to play a pivotal role in Germany’s renewable energy landscape.

Iberdrola’s Baltic Eagle offshore wind farm is projected to provide sustainable energy to an estimated 475,000 households, making a substantial contribution to environmental goals by reducing carbon emissions by nearly 1 million tonnes annually. This achievement marks a significant step forward in the ongoing efforts to harness clean energy from the Baltic Sea, positioning Van Oord as a key player in the advancement of offshore wind infrastructure.
