Uniper, the German energy group, has unveiled ambitious plans to establish a 280 MWp solar portfolio in Hungary through a collaboration with Budapest-based developer Callis Zrt.
This marks Uniper's inaugural venture into the Hungarian solar market, encompassing six ready-to-build photovoltaic (PV) projects. With all necessary permits already secured, the solar plants are expected to commence operations between 2026 and 2027.
As part of the strategic roadmap, Uniper aims to advance the projects by concluding comprehensive preliminary studies in 2023-2024. The company is also actively participating in the ongoing tender for network capacities in Hungary, with the objective of securing grid connections for its future solar initiatives in the country.
Uniper's commitment to sustainable practices aligns with its recently initiated transformation program, emphasizing a greener business model. With an investment exceeding EUR 8 billion (USD 8.58 billion) through 2030, Uniper is focused on developing solar and wind farms, aspiring to achieve an installed generating capacity that is 80% zero-carbon by 2030. The company has set a target to cease coal-fired power production by 2029 at the latest and aims to achieve complete carbon neutrality by 2040.
