Italian energy conglomerate Eni, in conjunction with energy services firm Saipem, has unveiled a collaborative agreement aimed at supporting the evolution of conventional refineries and the advancement of Eni's bio-refinery initiatives.
The partnership, announced on Monday, will concentrate on research and potential construction of facilities for producing biojet, a sustainable aviation fuel, and HVO diesel, a biofuel created from 100% renewable raw materials.
Notably, Eni holds the distinction of being the first company globally to successfully convert two traditional refineries into fully functional bio-refineries, as outlined in a company statement.
Eni's ambitious plans encompass a significant expansion of its bio-refining capacity, which currently stands at 1.65 million tons per year. By the year 2030, the company intends to elevate this capacity to over 5 million tons per year. This strategic move underscores Eni's commitment to pioneering sustainable and renewable energy solutions and positioning itself as a key player in the emerging biofuel market.
