Six Flags Entertainment, an amusement park company in the United States, has officially commenced construction on a substantial 12.37-MW solar carport, complemented by an energy storage system, at its renowned theme park located in Los Angeles.
The plans for this impressive solar project were initially announced by Six Flags in April. This endeavor, executed in collaboration with Solar Optimum and DSD Renewables, will be situated within the Six Flags Magic Mountain park.
Spanning an expansive 637,000 square feet (approximately 59,179 square meters), the solar carport is designed to meet 100% of the park's energy requirements. It is expected to generate an annual output of 20.8 million kWh of electricity, an amount sufficient to power 2,874 homes.
In addition to its substantial solar power capacity, the project also includes a 1.958 MW/7.886 MWh battery storage system. Furthermore, the plan entails the installation of approximately 30 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations within the guest parking area.
This venture marks Six Flags' third foray into solar installations. Upon its successful completion, the combined capacity of the company's onsite solar systems will reach an impressive 42.37 MW.
It's noteworthy that this significant development coincided with the recent announcement that Six Flags has entered into an agreement to be acquired by Cedar Fair Entertainment Co, a peer company, in a deal valued at approximately USD 1.88 billion (EUR 1.76 billion).
