Northumberland-based company Exagen has recently presented its innovative Highfield Energy Park to the Northumberland County Council. The project, which combines a solar farm with a cutting-edge battery installation, has undergone an extensive period of public consultation and environmental evaluation to ensure a well-informed design and planning application.
The Highfield Energy Park aims to utilize a high-capacity battery with a staggering 12.5MW of installed power to supply electricity to the grid during optimal periods, ultimately enhancing energy security. The site selection process considered factors such as available grid capacity and existing infrastructure. Only a short underground cable connection is needed to link the solar farm to the grid connection point.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the project, Mark Rowcroft, the Managing Director of Exagen Development, emphasized the cost-effectiveness and rapid deployment potential of solar energy generation. He stated that solar, coupled with energy storage, is a crucial component of the future energy mix. Rowcroft added that Exagen is eager to collaborate with local communities and businesses to ensure that the Highfield Energy Park not only contributes clean, domestically sourced energy to the grid but also brings benefits to the local area.
In the coming months, Exagen plans to announce various opportunities for individuals and businesses to participate in the project. The company welcomes input from residents of Whittonstall, Consett, and the surrounding vicinity to optimize the site's long-term effectiveness and maximize its benefits for the community.
