ScottishPower Renewables is set to begin turbine installation later this month at the 1,400MW East Anglia 3 offshore wind farm off the east coast of England, according to a notice to mariners.
The jack-up vessel Wind Osprey, operated by Cadeler, is scheduled to start installing Siemens Gamesa 14.7MW turbines from around March 18. Installation work is expected to continue through the third or fourth quarter of the year.
Wind Osprey will load turbine components at the Port of Esbjerg before mobilising to site. It will be joined offshore by sister vessel Wind Pace, which is due to arrive in mid-April.
Commissioning of turbines is planned to begin in June. Market disclosures indicate that around 500MW of capacity is targeted to be installed by July and more than 1GW by September, with full commercial operations expected about a month later.
Foundation works are also progressing. Installation contractor Seaway Ventus has installed approximately 53 of the 95 monopiles and transition pieces required for the project. The foundations campaign began last April at the site, located about 69 kilometres offshore from East Anglia.
