RWE has more than doubled the renewable capacity it has under construction in Italy to 235MW after starting work on a further 123MW of wind and solar projects in 2026, the company said.
The expansion follows construction launches in 2025 covering 112MW of assets. Once completed, the combined portfolio is expected to generate enough electricity to supply more than 190,000 Italian households.
Last year, RWE began building its first commercial-scale Agri-PV plants in Campania alongside two major onshore wind farms in Apulia and Basilicata.
“Busy times for our construction teams in Italy: three onshore wind farms, one solar park and six Agri-PV projects are rising in parallel across the country,” said Katja Wünschel, chief executive of RWE Renewables Europe & Australia.
“That’s 26 wind turbines and 127,000 solar modules with a total capacity of 235 megawatts, which will soon power 190,000 Italian homes,” she added.
Construction is currently under way at the 66MW Alas onshore wind farm in Sardinia, which will use ten 6.6MW turbines.
In Campania, the Ponte Valentino 1 and 2 solar parks with combined capacity of 19MWac are also being built in Benevento.
RWE is additionally developing four Agri-PV plants across Campania, Sicily and Calabria totalling 38.2MWac and around 50,000 modules. The projects will use elevated or high-tilt mounting structures designed to support continued agricultural and pastoral activity.
The developer said it plans to monitor operational performance and collect meteorological and agricultural data at the Agri-PV sites.
Further construction is expected to begin shortly on the 42MW Serra Giannina onshore wind farm in Potenza, Basilicata.
