R.Power and Axpo have signed a long-term optimisation agreement covering the 150MW/300MWh Magazyn Energii Jedwabno battery energy storage project in Poland’s Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship.

The companies said the agreement will run until 31 December 2037 and will support one of the largest utility-scale battery storage schemes currently under development in the Polish market.

Under the terms of the deal, Axpo will be responsible for optimising the operation of the Jedwabno facility under a profit-sharing model that also includes a guaranteed minimum revenue level for R.Power. The arrangement is designed to maximise the value of the asset across wholesale, balancing and ancillary services markets as Poland’s power system evolves.

Construction of the Jedwabno project has already begun, and once completed it is expected to rank among the largest battery energy storage systems in the country.

Mateusz Marczewski, managing director of Axpo Polska, said: “I’m delighted to be extending our cooperation with R.Power into a new area, namely the optimisation of energy storage facilities. A key aspect of this project was to design a contract aligned with dynamically evolving operational and regulatory standards.”

Rafał Hajduk, chief commercial officer at R.Power, said the project represents a strategic step in building out the company’s flexibility portfolio. “The development of the Jedwabno energy storage facility is a strategic step in expanding our portfolio of flexibility assets, supporting renewable energy integration and the security of the Polish power system,” he said.

He added: “Cooperation with Axpo provides us with advanced optimisation tools and a commercialisation model that will help us enhance the project’s efficiency throughout its lifetime.”

The optimisation agreement builds on the existing relationship between the two companies, following a medium-term power purchase agreement signed in 2021 covering around 300MW of solar capacity.
